Eyelid Surgery & Lower Blepharoplasty

Eyelid Surgery, also called eye lift or lower blepharoplasty, reduces bagginess from lower eyelids and removes excess skin from the upper eyelids. This surgery is usually used for cosmetic reasons. However, it is also an effective method to improve sight in elder people whose sagging upper eyelids get in the way of their vision. With age, our eyelids stretch and the supporting muscles weaken. As a result, excess fat may gather above and below your eyelids, causing sagging eyebrows, droopy upper lids and bags under your eyes. Besides making you look older, severely sagging skin around your eyes can reduce your side vision, especially the upper and outer parts of your field of vision. Blepharoplasty can reduce or eliminate these vision problems and make your eyes appear younger and more alert.
Dr. Lin mentioned that there are different types of eyelid surgery which includes: cosmetic eyelid surgery, functional eyelid surgery, upper blepharoplasty, lower blepharoplasty, hidden incision blepharoplasty and so on. It depends on patients’ condition. As for who is suitable for eyelid surgery, the best candidates are people who are suffering from vision problems caused by loose skin, baggy eyelids or droopy eyelids. Another functional problem is difficulty wearing glasses or contact lenses, whether from baggy upper or lower eyelids.
Eyelid surgery can enhance your appearance and help build your confidence. However, it may not result in your ideal look or alter your facial structure. Before you decide to have surgery, think about your goals and discuss them with your surgeon.
